Innovative Scheduling Workgroup
AACPS: Brooklyn Park MS was on a “hold” status for about an hour as a precaution as police investigated an alleged threat made by a student after an altercation. Students and staff remained safe in the school. Fortunately, the threat was not deemed credible and police provided a presence as a precuation. The school will continue normal operations for the remainder of the day. Around the county, Police and schools are dealing with many perceived threats which require additional resources. As Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell mentioned in his letter last Friday and in yesterday’s Thursday Thoughts, we will continue to investigate every threat brought to our attention in partnership with Police. Today, Police released additional information about this issue: https://x.com/AACOPD/status/1837195637479109068

Alison Flores - Director of Hispanic/Latino and Multicultural Resources Though I was born in Maryland, my parents came from EL Salvador. They have worked really hard and have created a successful life from nothing. They always ensured their kids excelled in school and provided the support we needed at home. I was in English as a Second Language (ESOL) for a long time, and whenever I talk to people about learning English, I share with them that it is a journey. Many things make me proud of my Hispanic Heritage, including our people's tenacity, resiliency, and creativity. Another thing I love about being Hispanic is seeing the diversity of Latino cultures throughout Latin America. We capture the best parts of a lot of things!

Hispanic Heritage Month
🎉 Celebrating #HispanicHeritageMonth ! Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long observance in June 1968, introduced by Congressman George E. Brown and approved by President Lyndon B. Johnson on September 17, 1968. In 1988, a bill championed by Senator Paul Simon and U.S. Representative Esteban E. Torres extended the celebration to a full 31 days. President Ronald Reagan signed this extension into law on August 17, 1988. On September 14, 1989, President George H.W. Bush officially declared the period from September 15 to October 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month. This timeframe honors the independence days of several Latin American countries: Mexico (September 16, 1810), Chile (September 18, 1810), Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua (September 15, 1821), and Belize (September 21, 1981). #CelebrateDiversity #AACPSCelebrates
