There were two very familiar faces of educational excellence in the crowd Wednesday for Governor Wes Moore’s State of the State address. That’s Meade High School Principal Ryan Durr, the Maryland High School Principal of the Year, and Crofton High School Counselor Danielle Crankfield, the National School Counselor of the Year, in the gallery. Governor Moore took time during his address to salute the work of both educators. #BelongGrowSucceed #AACPSFamily #OurStory

Led by Meade High School’s Top Magnet School of Excellence Honor, six county schools have earned national awards of merit from Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools.
Meade, which hosts one of three International Baccalaureate high school programs in Anne Arundel County Public Schools, is the only one in Maryland and one of about six dozen across the nation to earn MSA’s top honor. Glen Burnie High School, which hosts the county’s lone Biomedical Allied Health magnet program, earned a Magnet School of Excellence award.
Four schools – Annapolis and Broadneck high schools, Wiley H. Bates Middle School, and the Center of Applied Technology South – earned Magnet School of Distinction honors. Annapolis, Broadneck and Wiley H. Bates each host portions of the Apex Arts Magnet Program. CAT-South earned the award for its “Turning Passions into Professions” theme.

3:00 p.m., 2/3/26: Barring any additional inclement weather overnight that would impact school operations, all Anne Arundel County Public Schools and offices will open on time and will operate on normal schedules for students and staff on Wednesday, February 4.
There will still be areas of the county where adverse road and sidewalk conditions exist tomorrow morning, so families and employees are urged to continue to exercise caution and patience, including as it relates to decisions about student drivers. Families of students who normally walk to school should once again closely examine walking routes and, if prudent and possible, consider transporting their students to and from school.
Thank you.

4:00 p.m., 1/31/26: Out of an abundance of caution and in order to allow additional time for student and staff travel, all Anne Arundel County Public Schools will open two hours late on Monday, Feb. 2, and Tuesday, Feb. 3. There will be no morning half-day ECSE sessions, no morning sessions at the Centers of Applied Technology, and no transportation to JROTC programs.
Families of students who normally walk to school should closely examine walking routes prior to Monday and strongly consider transporting their students to and from school. Some adverse road and sidewalk conditions will also still exist on Monday and Tuesday, so families and staff are urged to exercise caution and patience, including as it relates to decisions about student drivers.
