Robotics enthusiasts of all ages turned out in droves Saturday for the annual Robotics Expo hosted Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Division of College and Career Readiness!
Students involved in the event learned firsthand about the innovation, collaboration and problem-solving that drive competitive robotics programs. Those in attendance were treated to demonstrations from the HyperLynx from Lindale Middle School, the CyberKnights from North County High School and the PowerHawks from South River High School.

After spending more than a quarter century as a teacher and school counselor with a focus and passion for serving at-risk students, Allison Mathews pulled her wealth of experience into a new role: Pupil Personnel Worker. For the last 11 years, she has approached every situation with expertise and empathy, working tirelessly to put in place meaningful solutions to help students and their families.
At Broadneck High School and now at Corkran Middle School, Mathews’ impact has been so profound it has earned her the 2025-2026 Maryland Pupil Personnel Worker of the Year award from the Maryland Association of Pupil Personnel.

Sara Hamdaoui, a junior at Crofton High School, has been elected by members of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC) to be the 2026-2027 student member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education (SMOB). The results were announced today on CRASC’s Instagram page, @CRASC_Online.

The award is earned by units who scored above the 95th percentile in their triennial inspection and accreditation process. The last time the battalion earned the award was 2013.

The last day of school for students in prekindergarten through 11th grade will be Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The last day of work for 191-day Unit I and Unit IV employees (classroom teachers, teaching assistants, technology support technicians, etc.) will be Thursday, June 18, 2026.

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County is set to vote on revisions to its grading policy that would allow the school district to provide class rank to certain high school students at its next meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
At the meeting, the Board will also:
• receive the recommendation of the Calendar Committee on the calendar for the 2027-28 school year. A Board vote on that calendar is scheduled for the Board’s May 6, 2026, meeting. The Board approved the 2026-27 school year calendar earlier this year.
• get a summary of education-related legislation considered during the recently concluded Maryland General Assembly session and the impact of that legislation on the school district.
• recognize 2026 National Merit Scholarship finalists.
