
Community Schools

AACPS Community Schools are funded through the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.
What is a Community School?
A public school that establishes a set of strategic partnerships between the school and other community resources that leverage shared accountability, collaborative leadership, capacity building, and authentic family and community engagement, using a student-centered framework to promote inclusive student achievement, positive learning conditions, and the well–being of students, families, educators, and the community through a variety of engaging practices including the provision of wraparound services. What are Wraparound Services?
A comprehensive, holistic, youth and family-driven approach to providing support programs to address student and family challenges.
Community Schools Overview

The Community School Blueprint funds support the following opportunities and programming for students and families (varies by school to address identified school needs):
Fitness and sporting opportunities
Nutrition education and connections to community resources
Health fairs and other health education outreach
Grade 3 dental program
Adult basic English classes, GED preparation courses, and computer classes (in partnership with Anne Arundel Community College)
Parenting, financial literacy, and civic education classes
Toddler family opportunities including bilingual story time, play groups, and early literacy experiences
Student field trips and family excursions
Student clubs and afterschool tutoring
Additional experiences with the arts, social studies, and science
Spring pilot of telehealth services
Expansion of Anne Arundel County Recs and Parks aftercare to five AACPS Community School sites (split funding model)

Community School Blueprint funds support the following positions:
47 full-time Community School Program Managers
35 full-time school nurses
13 full-time social workers
4 full-time school counselors
11 behavioral specialists
11 behavioral teaching assistants
6 community bilingual specialists
All Community School Blueprint funded positions complete Restorative Practices training.
