Thank you for your interest in supporting our students! Volunteers are an important part of the AACPS school community.  By offering their time and talent, volunteers enrich the education of our students, support our staff, and serve families in our community.

"Whenever there is an opportunity to help a child, I encourage everyone to give whatever time you may have... you won't regret making a difference." - Lisa Saunders, volunteer.

How to Become a Volunteer/Chaperone

  1. Contact a school where you would like to volunteer and talk with the staff member who coordinates the volunteer program.

  2. Watch the sexual harassment and child abuse training module and complete a verification form, which will be kept on file at the school.

  3. Complete a background check. Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) is committed to providing safe and secure learning environments for all students. Effective October 1, 2026, AACPS requires a fingerprint-supported background check for all individuals serving as school volunteers or chaperones. Volunteers and chaperones must successfully complete the fingerprinting process and receive approval before participating in school activities that require volunteer or chaperone status.

All volunteers and chaperones are required to complete a fingerprint-supported background check. Individuals must be at least 18 years of age, including:

  • Field trip chaperones

  • Overnight trip chaperones

  • Classroom volunteers

  • Volunteer coaches

  • Club advisors

  • Mentors and tutors

  • PTA/PTO volunteers serving in volunteer capacities

  • Any individual providing ongoing volunteer services within AACPS schools

Please note: Fingerprint-supported background checks for chaperones should be completed at least 1 week prior to the scheduled field trip.

Fingerprinting services are available by appointment only.
