🎉 Celebrating #HispanicHeritageMonth! Joe Hudson - Hispanic Liaison, Annapolis Police Department #AACPSFamily #CelebrateDiversity #AACPSCelebrates #MesDeLaHerenciaHispana

Joe Hudson - Hispanic Liaison, Annapolis Police Department I was originally born and raised in Texas, my mother is from Mexico and my dad from Oklahoma. My mom taught me the value of service, helping people, and building relationships, and she is still at work in my life. Culture cures, and if you stay connected to your culture you can get through anything. Most of what I do is to honor my family and those who came before me. As the Hispanic Liaison for the Annapolis Police Department, I have spent the past 15 years working in the community with our families and schools. At the office I provide interpretation services and other services for police investigations. In our schools, I volunteer my time with students by joining lunch bunches, mentoring students, and supporting unaccompanied minors. Over the years I worked with AACPS Bilingual Facilitators in the program Joven Noble to run mentor groups for students. Students: you are perfect the way you are, and you’re going to be okay. Be worthy of a dream, and have your purpose be to map a way to make your dream come true.

🎉 Celebrating #HispanicHeritageMonth! Glory Paredes - Artist #AACPSFamily #CelebrateDiversity #AACPSCelebrates #MesDeLaHerenciaHispana
11 months ago, Anne Arundel County Public Schools
Glory Paredes - Artist I arrived in Annapolis from El Salvador in 2004 and began my artist residency at Maryland Hall four years ago. Over the years I’ve provided art classes and workshops for AACPS students and families in the Annapolis area at their schools or community centers. During the summer, I partner with Marshall Learning Center to provide art classes for ESL children and youth. I also work as an immersive Spanish and visual arts teacher at the Wildhearts Academy for homeschooled children. For me, art is about learning and growing, and educating others. I began volunteering at an early age, and as an artist I enjoy working with children the most. It’s important for children to learn about and have exposure to art. I want to help educate children and adults that art is a way for Latinos to have a voice and to be heard as Latinos, for others to hear us and see us. Exhibits featuring Glory Paredes: Sept. 9 - Oct. 31, Latino Art Gallery Annapolis City Hall, Annapolis MD Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, “Perspectivas Latinas” Pascal Center for Performing Arts Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold MD Oct. 10 - Jan. 2, “Abriendo Caminos” Hispanic Heritage Exhibition Maryland Hall, Annapolis MD
- 31 Oct., Latino Art Gallery Annapolis City Hall, Annapolis MD 15 Sept. - 15 Oct., “Perspectivas Latinas” Pascal Center for Performing Arts Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold MD 10 Oct. - 2 Enero, “Abriendo Caminos” Hispanic Heritage Exhibition Maryland Hall, Annapolis MD
