Acting on newly released unofficial enrollment counts for the current school year provided to it last night, the Board of Education has moved two additional redistricting proposals to public hearing. With last night’s action, the Board has now moved six proposals forward to public hearing. The new proposals are:
· Superintendent’s Recommendation 3 (SR-3), put forward by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell. The proposal mirrors the previously approved Superintendent’s Recommendation 2 (SR-2) but maintains the Apex Arts program at Annapolis High School and retains current boundaries for both Crofton Elementary School and Crofton Meadows Elementary School.
· Board Recommendation 3 (BR-3), which consists of SR-3 and adds the same seven amendments that the Board included in Board Recommendation 1 (BR-1) and Board Recommendation 2 (BR-2).
The Board will be announcing a revised public hearing schedule to allow for community input on the six proposals now under consideration. The six plans could result in shifts in schools for between 900 and 1,500 students depending upon which of the plans or version of them the Board approves.
A summary of the proposals and other resources related to the redistricting process can the found at www.aacps.org/phase2redistricting. The plan ultimately adopted by the Board is scheduled to go into effect in the 2026-27 school year.
