You don’t have to tell Old Mill Middle School South Principal Linda Chandler or anyone on her staff just how amazing her school’s PTA is. After all, Chandler has seen the group go above and beyond to support students, staff, and families through countless volunteer hours, community-building events, student recognition programs, and fundraising efforts that have enhanced the overall school experience.
From hosting the Halloween Dance, Trunk or Treat, Holiday Craft Fair, and Spirit Nights to supporting incentive programs, student leadership luncheons, and other school initiatives, the PTA has become an invaluable partner in fostering a positive and connected school community. Just in case anyone was unsure, however, the school’s PTA now has additional evidence: It has been named a 2025-2027 National PTA School of Excellence for its partnership with families through PTA to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.
“Our PTA continually demonstrates an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families,” Chandler said. “Through their dedication, creativity, and volunteer spirit, they create opportunities that bring our community together and enrich the middle school experience for every child. Whether supporting student incentives, recognizing student leaders, hosting family events, or raising funds for meaningful programs, they make a lasting impact on our school each and every day. We are incredibly proud of this well-deserved recognition.”
The PTA is just one of 321 across the nation and the only one in Anne Arundel County Public Schools to earn the award. As a National PTA School of Excellence, Old Mill Middle School South PTA made significant progress during the 2025-2026 school year to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power, and collaborate with the community.
“Receiving this award is an incredible honor and a reflection of what we accomplished together as a PTA,” President Kristin Sym said. “During the 2025–2026 school year, we worked to speak up for every child, share power by giving our families a stronger voice, and build meaningful partnerships throughout our school and community. This award belongs to every volunteer, family, staff member, and community partner who believed that when we work together, we can make a real difference for our students. I am incredibly proud of how far Old Mill Middle School South PTA has come and even more excited about where we’re going next.”
A celebration will be held this fall.
