Best Communities in Music Education art

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) has been named one of the 2026 Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), marking the sixth consecutive year the school district has received the national recognition.

The BCME award is a signature program of The NAMM Foundation. It recognizes and celebrates school districts for their outstanding support and commitment to music education, as well as their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning opportunities for all students as part of a well‑rounded education.

Districts recognized with the award must demonstrate a sustained commitment to providing high‑quality music instruction and meaningful performance experiences for students at all grade levels. To earn the award, AACPS showcased its funding support, curriculum, participation levels, teacher professional learning, student access and community engagement in music education across the county.

“The work we do in music education across our county at every level is simply inspiring,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell said. “The arts are another avenue through which we can help every student Belong, Grow, and Succeed and I am so proud of everyone involved in our music program.”

AACPS offers a comprehensive music education program that includes general music, instrumental and vocal ensembles, and specialized performance opportunities at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The continued recognition by The NAMM Foundation highlights the county’s long‑standing commitment to the arts and the role music plays in supporting student achievement and well‑being.

The award places AACPS among a select group of school districts across the nation recognized for excellence in music education and sustained investment in arts learning. This year’s designation reinforces Anne Arundel County’s reputation as a community that prioritizes academic quality, creative expression, and diverse student opportunities both in and beyond the classroom.
