Board of Education President Gloria Dent and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell released the following statements regarding the Fiscal Year 2027 budget proposal presented to the County Council today by County Executive Steuart Pittman.
MS. DENT
“I am extremely grateful to Mr. Pittman and his team for the efforts they have once again clearly made to invest in our school system. Under Dr. Bedell’s leadership, we have utilized the support of the County Executive and the County Council to increase graduation rates, decrease staffing vacancies, implement new curriculum that has resulted in higher test scores, expand access to advanced courses, dramatically boost the number of five-star schools and construct more state-of-the-art facilities. We intend to work with the Council from this point to continue the progress we have made.”
DR. BEDELL
“With his eighth and final budget proposal, which contains a record funding increase, County Executive Pittman has cemented his legacy of being an ardent champion of education in our county. Year after year, Mr. Pittman and his team have consistently worked with our Board and staff to maximize the support that can be provided to our school district, and we have worked extraordinarily hard to make the most of that support.”
