2027-2028 Calendar Art

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has been presented with a recommended 2027-2028 school year calendar that calls for classes to begin for students on Monday, August 30, 2027, and end on Wednesday, June 14, 2028.

The calendar, created by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Calendar Committee and provided to the Board at its April 22, 2026, meeting, is the third calendar built based on calendar flexibility legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly and supported by the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell. The legislation requires the district to meet minimum seat hours for students at all levels instead of meeting seat hours and 180 school days. The 2027-2028 calendar contains 177 instructional days, as do the current year calendar and the Board’s approved 2026-2027 calendar.

The 2027-2028 calendar contains a five-day Thanksgiving break and six-day Christmas/Winter and Easter/Spring breaks for students. It also contains just four partial days for students.

The Calendar Committee is established under Board Policy IB, School Calendar. It is made up of 24 representatives, including students, parents and school system staff. The Board is scheduled to discuss the calendar again and adopt an official calendar for the 2027-2028 school year at its May 6, 2026, meeting.

The calendar, which can be viewed on the AACPS Calendar web page, also contains:

  • four non-student days following the last day of each marking period to allow for teachers to complete grades and other staff to engage in professional development.

  • the closing of schools Yom Kippur and Primary Election Day.

  • a non-student day in November for elementary and middle school students only. High schools will operate on normal schedules on these days.

  • closings of high schools on the day of their graduations.

There are three built-in inclement weather days which would be deducted from the end of the school year if they are not used.
