26-27 School Year Calendar Recommendation

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County has been presented with a recommended 2026-2027 school year calendar that calls for classes to begin for students on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, and end on Friday, June 11, 2027.

The calendar, created by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Calendar Committee and provided to the Board at its November 19, 2025, meeting, contains a two-week long Christmas/Winter break and weeklong Thanksgiving and Easter/Spring breaks for students. It also contains just four partial days for students, down from 12 in the current year calendar initially approved by the Board.

The Calendar Committee is established under Board Policy IB, School Calendar. It contains 24 representatives inclusive of students, parents and school system staff. The Board is scheduled to discuss the calendar again and adopt an official calendar for the coming school year at its December 3, 2025, meeting.

The calendar, which can be viewed on the AACPS Calendar web page, also contains:

·       Four non-student days following the last day of each marking period to allow for teachers to complete grades and other staff to engage in professional development.

·       Closings on Yom Kippur, Election Day, and Eid al-Fitr.

·       A non-student day in November for elementary and middle school students only. High schools will operate on normal schedules on these days.

·       Closings of high schools on the day of their graduations.

·       Three built-in inclement weather days which would be deducted from the end of the school year if not used.

The calendar contains sufficient seat hours at all levels to comply with State law.
