Board of Education Members

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will have further discussions about the six Phase 2 redistricting proposals currently under consideration at its next regular business meeting, scheduled for noon on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

The Board has conducted one public hearing on the proposals and will hold a second public hearing on Monday, November 3, 2025. Details on that hearing can be found on the AACPS news release page. Should the Board create a plan or plans other than the six currently under consideration, AACPS staff will hold a public briefing and the Board will hold a public hearing on that plan or plans. The Board is currently scheduled to adopt a final plan this month, with that plan going into effect in August 2026.

Because the Board is conducting public hearings on Phase 2 redistricting, it will not accept comment on that topic at the November 5, 2025, business meeting.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the Board will:

·       consider approval of a new middle school course – Integrated Computational Thinking – and three new high school courses – Forensic Science 2, Advanced Placement Cybersecurity, and Advanced Placement Business Education With Personal Finance.

·       conduct the first of three readings on revisions to the Policy IIC, Graduation Requirements and the accompanying regulation. The revisions would reduce the number of credits needed for graduation from 26 to 22.5, still higher than the state minimum, by requiring fewer elective credits.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public and subject to normal space limitations in the Board Room.

The Board will also meet in a public session at 10 a.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public.

A complete agenda for the meeting can be found on the Board meeting page. More information on agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

PROCESS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS

The Board will hear public comments from up to 10 total speakers (virtual and in-person combined) per agenda item (during a single public comment section in the early portion of the meeting. Additionally, up to 10 speakers can comment on non-agenda items towards the end of the meeting.

Procedures and protocols for public comment, including items for which the Board will not accept comment, can be found on the Board meeting page. A link to register for public comment will be live at 3 p.m. on the Friday before the Board meeting.

The general session of the meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV and on AACPS’ YouTube channel.

SECOND PUBLIC HEARING ON PHASE 2 REDISTRICTING
