Brayden Morgan, a junior at Glen Burnie High School, has been elected by members of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC) to be the 2025-2026 student member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education (SMOB). The results were announced today on CRASC’s Instagram page, @CRASC_Online.
Michelle Fadele of Chesapeake High School and Jack Warrick of Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School were the other finalists for the position.
Morgan’s name will be forwarded to Gov. Wes Moore, who must make the formal appointment. He would be the fourth SMOB from Glen Burnie High School since students have held a seat on the Board and the first since Carolyn Williams held the position in the 2016-2017 school year. Morgan would succeed current SMOB Hafsa Hamdaoui of Crofton High School, whose one-year term expires on June 30.
“I am beyond excited for this opportunity to work with my fellow Board members and represent AACPS students,” Morgan said. “Thank you to my family, campaign team, teachers, and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. As a student who represents students that traditionally feel unheard, I am grateful for this position which will allow me to elevate those voices. Thank you, AACPS students, I will not let you down.”
Morgan is a member of Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Student Service Leadership Team, which plans projects, shares opportunities, and advocates for public service throughout the county, and is the student representative for Glen Burnie High School’s Public Service Signature Program. He is currently an officer in the school’s Interact Club and will serve as the club’s president next year.
A three-year varsity soccer player at Glen Burnie, Morgan is a member of the school’s Athletic Leadership Council. In that role, he helps to promote and improve athletic leadership at the school and in the greater community.
As a junior, Morgan enrolled in Glen Burnie’s AVID program so that he could further promote leadership to fellow students. He also serves as an AVID athletic mentor through a program which allowed him to work with a freshman at the school and provide both athletic and academic guidance.
This year, Morgan co-founded the school’s Polar Bear Plunge Committee and helped lead an effort that raised more than $30,000 for Special Olympics.
As SMOB, Morgan said he would focus on elevating all voices, expanding representation for special education students, and increasing awareness of Career Technical Education and student service opportunities.
Upon appointment, Morgan will become the 52nd student member of the Board. Students have held a seat on the Board since 1974, when Andover High School’s Jeffrey Robinson served in an advisory capacity. Anne Arundel’s student member has had full voting rights since 1975 and is the only member of a local school board in the nation to have that status.
If appointed, Morgan would assume his seat on July 1, 2025.
