Two county high school seniors who are planning careers in the United States military make up the fifth class of recipients of Military Service Awards, created by the Board of Education to honor the legacy of the late Candace C.W. Antwine, a military veteran and former member of the Board of Education.
The 2026 honorees are:
Jacob Blunt, Northeast High School, who is enlisting in the Marines.
Landon Chubbuck, Northeast High School, who is enlisting in the Navy.
· The awards are given each spring in honor of Ms. Antwine, a Navy veteran who served on the Board of Education from 2018 until her death in 2021, to Anne Arundel County Public Schools students who have made a similar commitment by enlisting to serve in the United States military upon graduation. They assist awardees with initial expenses related to enlisting, including uniforms and basic training supplies, and aim to remove financial barriers to military service. Each of this year’s recipients will receive $1,500.
“Recognizing our students who will take the oath and serve our country is a top priority for myself and the entire Board of Education,” said Board Vice President Dawn Pulliam, who chairs the Board’s Military Service Awards committee. “These outstanding young men will continue to make positive impacts on their communities and our nation, and it is a true privilege to recognize them today. They are carrying forward the legacy established by Ms. Antwine and so many others who have served and continue to serve our country. We could not be more proud of them.”
Recipients were honored at an event on May 14, 2026, and will also be recognized at the Board of Education’s next meeting on May 20, 2026. That meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.
