Board of Education Members

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will receive new additional information regarding Phase 2 of the comprehensive redistricting process and consider revisions to the current school year calendar at its next regular business meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

As announced earlier this week, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell will provide the board with information related to preliminary and unofficial 2025-26 enrollment numbers gathered on September 30, 2025, in order to better inform the Board and the public as the redistricting process moves forward.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the Board will also:

  • Consider revisions to the 2025-26 school year calendar made possible by the passage of legislation in the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session. The revisions recommended by Dr. Bedell would convert two early dismissal days at the end of each of the second, third and fourth marking periods to one full day for students followed by one non-student day to allow teachers to complete grading and other staff to engage in professional learning.

  • Receive an update on the minimum school funding requirements contained in the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and the work Anne Arundel County Public Schools is doing to meet those requirements.

Wednesday’s meeting will be held in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public and subject to normal space limitations in the Board Room.

The Board will also meet in a public session at 4:30 p.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public.

A complete agenda for the meeting can be found here. More information on agenda items will be posted on the AACPS website in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

PROCESS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS

The Board will hear public comments from up to 10 total speakers (virtual and in-person combined) per agenda item (during a single public comment section in the early portion of the meeting. Additionally, up to 10 speakers can comment on non-agenda items towards the end of the meeting.

Procedures and protocols for public comment, including items for which the Board will not accept comment, can be found here. A link to register for public comment will be live at 3 p.m. on the Friday before the Board meeting.

Because the Board will be holding public hearings in the near future specific to any redistricting plans it puts forward for further consideration, it will not accept comment on redistricting at the October 15, 2025, business meeting.

The general session of the October 15 meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV and on AACPS’ YouTube channel.
