Board of Education Members

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will hear an update on summer meal offerings for students across the county and will vote to establish meal prices for the coming school year at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Also at the meeting, the Board will recognize the winners of the Military Service Award in honor of Candace C.W. Antwine, given annually to help defray the costs associated with enlisting in the military. Those honorees are Stance DeHaven of South River High School, who is enlisting in the Navy; Kimberlin Orellano of Glen Burnie High School, who is enlisting in the Navy; and Nevaeh Queen of Old Mill High School, who is enlisting in the Army.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room in the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public and subject to normal space limitations in the Board Room. The Board will also meet in a public session at 4:30 p.m. for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public.

PROCESS FOR PUBLIC COMMENT ON AGENDA ITEMS

The Board will hear public comment from up to 10 total speakers (virtual and in-person combined) per agenda item (excluding personnel items, reports, informational presentations, and recognitions) during a single public comment section in the early portion of the meeting. Additionally, up to 10 speakers can comment on non-agenda items (excluding student-specific or personnel matters, or issues that have had or will have a public hearing before the Board) towards the end of the meeting.

BOARD WORKSHOP ON LONG RANGE FACILITIES PLAN

The Board will hold a public workshop at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19, to hear an update on the school system’s formulation of a new long range facilities plan that will guide school construction over the coming decade. Information about the plan can be found a www.aacps.org/facilitiesplan. AACPS is accepting public comment on the plan at that site through June 1, 2025.

The workshop will be held in the Board Room of the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. It is open to the public, but no public questions or testimony will be taken.

BOARD ETHICS PANEL TO MEET ON MAY 29, 2025

The Board of Education Ethics Panel will meet virtually at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Parham Building.

The panel will meet in open session for the sole purpose of voting to immediately go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice and personnel. Closed session is not open to the public.

The duties of the Ethics Panel include devising, receiving, and maintaining all ethics forms generated by school system regulations; providing advisory opinions on ethics matters; making determinations as to complaints filed by any person alleging violations of regulations; referring findings regarding complaints and other enforcement matters to the Board for action; and conducting an information program regarding the purposes and application of regulations.
