  • Partners for Success is a partnership between Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Anne Arundel County Schools (AACPS) to provide the tools and information necessary to empower parents to support their child's educational program.

    Partners for Success staff are committed to providing information to parents and families to work as equal partners with Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Specifically, Partners for Success seeks to:

    • Increase parental involvement in the early intervention and special education decision making processes;
    • Increase collaborative relationships through information and training;
    • Assist families in resolving concerns and making informed decisions regarding their child's education; and
    • Provide information about disabilities and school system and community resources.

    TheArc@School

    The Arc Maryland is partnering with The Arc of the United States and The Lids Foundation to provide free access to TheArc@School: The Arc US’s online education advocacy curriculum. The Arc@School, provides information that parents and family members need to support their loved ones in navigating special education, including understanding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Early Intervention Services, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and more!

    Who Is the Curriculum For?

    TheArc@School curriculum is designed for individuals who are working with or advocating on behalf of children with disabilities in special education matters, including:

    • Parents and other family members
    • Educators and related services providers
    • Chapters of The Arc
    • Non-attorney advocates not affiliated with The Arc

    What Does the Curriculum Include?

    TheArc@School’s Advocacy Curriculum includes eight modules that are each roughly an hour long and include a pre-test, a listening guide, narrated video presentations, a post-test,  and additional resources. The module topics are:

    1. Building a Foundation for Advocacy
    2. IDEA and Early Intervention Services
    3. IDEA and Special Education Services
    4. Anatomy of an IEP
    5. Procedural Safeguards
    6. Section 504
    7. Educational Records
    8. Advocacy Skills

    Updated MSDE Parent Information Series

    A series of four booklets that provide essential information for families of students with disabilities from ages 3 through 21 on important topics that increase collaboration between home and school in planning for their child's education. It is our hope that families use these resources as tools to actively engage as equal participants in the special education processes for their children.
