Today we launched a new mentoring initiative in partnership with Severn Run High School called SRQ Connect! This program brings together student-athletes from Severn Run and students from Quarterfield to build meaningful connections through physical activity, mentorship, and social-emotional learning!

During physical education classes and recess—times when students often face challenges with behavior and peer interactions—SRQ Connect mentors will support our younger learners by modeling positive behaviors, encouraging teamwork, and helping students navigate competitive situations with empathy and resilience.

The high school mentors will serve as role models, demonstrating how to participate actively, resolve conflicts respectfully, and have fun while staying emotionally regulated. This initiative is designed to strengthen our students’ social-emotional skills and create a more inclusive and supportive environment during high-energy parts of the day.   Our goal is to do this at least once per month.

Please join us in welcoming the SRQ Connect mentors and supporting this exciting collaboration between our schools!  Special Shout Out to Coach Allen Haley for his willingness to connect for community sake.

Sending a HUGE shout-out to Mrs. Nikki and Mrs. D for starting the "Teacher Spotlight" program. In conjunction with our Sunshine Committee, they worked to create a weekly program that allow staff to nominate their coworkers for the great things they do. This helps build a positive working environment where staff are appreciated, honored, recognized for a job well done. As we continue to celebrate each other, we hope that Mrs. Nikki and Mrs. D know that they are truly appreciated for the work they have done to build staff morale! You truly capture the heart of AACPS and help everyone #BelongGrowSucceed

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will have further discussions about the six Phase 2 redistricting proposals currently under consideration at its next regular business meeting, scheduled for noon on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

At the meeting, the Board will also:
• consider approval of a new middle school course – Integrated Computational Thinking – and three new high school courses – Forensic Science 2, Advanced Placement Cybersecurity, and Advanced Placement Business Education With Personal Finance.
• conduct the first of three readings on revisions to the Policy IIC, Graduation Requirements and the accompanying regulation. The revisions would reduce the number of credits needed for graduation from 26 to 22.5, still higher than the state minimum, by requiring fewer elective credits.

More details can be found on the AACPS news release page.
