     2021-22 Student Member of the Board Election Dates of Interest

    February 24, 2021- 6:00 PM via Google Meet COMPLETE

    This informational meeting will be for all interested parties to learn about the process of nomination, campaigning, election, and appointment. Interested students are encouraged to attend. The Expectations of Office will be discussed at this information session. 

    The 2021-22 Student Member of the Board nomination period will open, and the Office of Student Leadership will begin accepting nomination forms by email at spellegrin@aacps.org.   

    March 10, 2021 - 6:00 PM via Google Meet COMPLETE

    A pair of Campaign Clinics are offered by CRASC. These workshops are designed to help students prepare for elections including SMOB, CRASC Officer, Class Officers, and Student Council Offices. These workshops are open to all interested students. SMOB nominees are encouraged to attend. Each workshop will cover separate materials and themes. The theme for Campaign Clinic #1 is Platform Development. 

    March 17, 2021 - 6:00 PM via Google Meet COMPLETE

    Campaign Clinic #2- A Winning Strategy; this clinic will aid in sharpening your campaign and presentation during elections. 

    March 19, 2021- 4:00 PM COMPLETE

    The 2021 Student Member of the Board nomination period closes at 4 PM. All nomination forms must be submitted by this time.  

    March 26, 2021- 4:00 PM  COMPLETE

    SMOB Application Packets are due to the Office of Student Leadership by  4 PM. All essays, letters of recommendation, and resumes must be submitted by email to spellegrin@aacps.org

    April 12 & April 13, 2021  COMPLETE

    All nominees for SMOB will be scheduled for an interview. These interviews are scored and used to select the three finalists who will advance to the SMOB Election. 

    April 23, 2021

    Ballots will be mailed 

    April 26, 2021- 6:00 PM via AACPS You Tube

    CRASC will host a debate between the three candidate finalists. This debate will be moderated by a student, and the format will be determined by CRASC. 

    April 29, 2021

    Candidate speeches and Q & A will be recorded.

  • Anne Arundel County’s student member on the Board of Education is the only one in the nation on a local board who has full voting rights. The SMOB is elected by members of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC) and appointed by the Governor on July 1.

    The nomination process begins in February of each year and concludes with an election in April.
