Two Rivers Elementary School and Severn Run High School have achieved LEED Silver Certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Both buildings, which opened in August 2024, are now formally recognized for their sustainability efforts.
LEED certification provides a structured approach to creating healthy, efficient, carbon- and cost-saving green buildings supported by organizations and individuals promoting market transformation. To attain LEED certification, projects must earn points by meeting prerequisites and credits that address various factors such as carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health, and indoor environmental quality.
AACPS now has nine schools that have earned LEED Silver Certification., underscoring Anne Arundel County Public Schools' dedication to sustainability and fostering a healthy environment for students and staff.

Announcing the 2025 Velma Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching About Agriculture winner — Stacey Scofield! 🌱🎉
Stacey, a Library Media and Instructional Technology teacher at Walter S. Mills-Parole Elementary School, has gone above and beyond to bring agriculture into the hands and hearts of her students. From pollinator lessons and pumpkin patches to a pizza garden and garden club, Stacey has created incredible hands-on opportunities for students to connect with agriculture — even hatching chickens and hosting a MAEF Mobile Lab visit!
Her creative, inclusive approach helps students of all backgrounds see themselves in agriculture, breaking down barriers and showing that agriculture is everywhere — from what we eat to what we wear.
Congratulations, Stacey! We can’t wait to follow along as you continue to inspire young minds through ag literacy!
