As students vacation and attempt to stay out of the heat, district leaders continue their work to prepare to make the 2025-26 school year even better than the one that just concluded. About 300 administrators and other leaders gathered for the first day of the Division of Instruction and School Performance’s two-day conference, titled “Empowering Leadership: Working Together for Remarkable Results.” The keynote address came from Dr. Luvelle Brown, the longtime and nationally recognized superintendent of New York’s Ithaca City School District. Attendees also heard remarks from Chief Academic Officer Christina Catalano and were entertained by members of the #AACPSAwesome Big Bad Brass Band of Severn Run High School before going to sessions! #BelongGrowSucceed #AACPSFamily

School may be out for the summer, but our school district leaders are hard at work developing innovative curriculum for the coming year. Members of our Triple E (Enhancing Elementary Excellence) team are collaborating to design hands-on, STEM-rich learning experiences that spark curiosity and critical thinking. This summer’s work is focused on giving students more opportunities to solve real-world problems through inquiry and innovation. The lessons we are creating are aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and grounded in project-based learning to help ensure that that students not only learn content but also build the skills they need to lead, create, and thrive. #BelongGrowSucceed #AACPSFamily.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools is proud to be the only local school system in the nation with a Student Member of the Board who has full voting rights. Tonight the Board paid tribute to outgoing SMOB Hafsa Hamdoui, a Crofton High School graduate, at her last meeting. #BelongGrowSucceed #AACPSFamily

As the 2024-2025 school year draws to a close, we pause to remember those we have lost. They will always be part of our #AACPSFamily.

Traversing the busiest part of the hiring season isn't done successfully unless the entire team is ready, willing, and able. Members of our #AACPSAwesome Division of Human Resources team recently took some time to engage in professional development and team-building activities that will prove invaluable in that work. The morning portion of the day was capped off by a visit from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Bedell, who took time to thank the team for the hard work that has resulted in an ongoing decline in vacancies.
Are you interested in joining our team? We hope to see you at one of our upcoming hiring events! Reach out to recruitment@aacps.org for more information.

Seniors enrolled in Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ AVID program earned nearly $111.4 million in scholarship offers this year, a 33.6 percent increase from the prior year that shattered the previous single-year high of $83.4 million. The offers are $28 million more than those earned by seniors who graduated a year ago and are just one indication of the growing success of the Advancement Via Individual Determination Program in the school district. Lothian Elementary School teacher Chelsea McDonald is quick to say she draws inspiration from those around her. It’s pretty evident that the reverse is also true.
McDonald, who teaches fourth grade and is in her 11th year with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, has been named the 2025 Elementary School Outstanding Mathematics Educator by the Maryland Council Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM). For more details, go to https://www.aacps.org/article/2265047.
