The Board of Education is now accepting applications for the 2026 Military Service Award in honor of Candace C.W. Antwine, an initiative designed to provide assistance to Anne Arundel County Public Schools students who enlist in the military after graduation.

The monetary awards are given each spring in honor of Ms. Antwine, a Navy veteran who served on the Board of Education from 2018 until her death in 2021, to AACPS students who have made a similar commitment by enlisting to serve in the United States military upon graduation. They assist awardees with initial expenses related to enlisting, including uniforms and basic training supplies, and aim to remove financial barriers to military service.

Applications for this year’s award can be found online at www.aacps.org/serviceaward. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on April 17, 202

Last week, School and Family Partnerships hosted an outstanding CAT North application event at North County High School. Their team supported families in successfully completing an incredible 91 applications to the Center of Applied Technology North. This achievement reflects the strength of North County cluster collaboration across departments, thoughtful planning, and the unwavering dedication of staff. The event powerfully demonstrated how essential this hands-on support is for our community and stands as clear evidence of the meaningful impact this collective effort made for students and families.

Three incredible leaders from AACPS’ Division of Specialized Instruction and Early Intervention Services had the opportunity to share with colleagues from across the state the ways in which AACPS moves from policy to practice in supporting students with disabilities as part of a Maryland State Department of Education panel. Thanks to Nicole White, Director of Specialized Programming; Meghan Lynch, Coordinator of Nonpublic Placements; and Sonya McElroy, Director of Birth to 5 Programming and Services Accountability, for their #AACPSAwesome work in this area. When we collaborate, innovate, and lead with purpose, students win. #AACPSFamily #BelongGrowSucceed #OurStory

There were two very familiar faces of educational excellence in the crowd Wednesday for Governor Wes Moore’s State of the State address. That’s Meade High School Principal Ryan Durr, the Maryland High School Principal of the Year, and Crofton High School Counselor Danielle Crankfield, the National School Counselor of the Year, in the gallery. Governor Moore took time during his address to salute the work of both educators. #BelongGrowSucceed #AACPSFamily #OurStory

Music programs get most of their notoriety from the success of their musicians, but any great music program has a backbone of teaching and support that makes it truly special. Anne Arundel County Public Schools is no exception, and three AACPS educators are being recognized on the state level for their efforts.

Severn Run High School Principal Rachel Kennelly and Broadneck Elementary School Principal Jamie Miller have each earned Outstanding School Administrator awards from the Maryland Music Educators Association for their support of their school’s music programs. The organization has also bestowed its James and Rosemary Walters Award for Service to Paul Dembowski of the Apex Arts program.
