PreK PJ Night
Good Afternoon Families, Valentine’s Day is February 14th and all children are invited to participate in a small celebration within their classrooms. Students are invited to bring Valentine’s Day cards to share with friends. We ask that if your child chooses to participate, he/she brings enough Valentine’s Cards for each student in the class. If families need assistance, please reach out to Ms. Tina Rameriez, School Counselor. Teachers will be sending class lists with first names only if you would like to personalize the cards. Students will be provided with white Valentine’s Day bags that they can decorate prior to the party. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Sincerely, Woodside Elementary School

As we begin the month of February and start of Black/African-American History Month, we are afforded the opportunity to celebrate and commemorate the many contributions made by people of African descent to our nation. The U.S. Census Bureau offers us some historical context for this month’s recognition on their website: "To commemorate and celebrate the contributions to our nation made by people of African descent, American historian Carter G. Woodson established Black History Week. The first celebration occurred on Feb. 12, 1926. For many years, the second week of February was set aside for this celebration to coincide with the birthdays of abolitionist/editor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, as part of the nation’s bicentennial, the week was expanded to a month. Since then, U.S. presidents have proclaimed February as National African American History Month."
