LOOKING AHEAD: Since our school opened in 2023, we have made it a tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a way that aligns with American Heart Month and promotes wellness and mindful choices with our PK-5 students. This year, we will once again observe a Heart-Healthy Valentine’s Day, focusing on kindness, friendship, and healthy habits rather than sugary treats. Please note that while students may exchange non-food Valentine’s cards or small items, the exchange of candy or food items will NOT be permitted. Any candy brought to school will be returned home with your student. More details, a wish list, and a sign up for the donation of heart healthy snacks will be forthcoming as we get closer to February 13th.
Thank you, as always, for your support!

Dear CSPES Families,
I am writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with clarity and purpose.
My primary responsibility as principal is the safety of our students and our staff. Unfortunately, I have failed at that. Today, that responsibility was tested in a way that is unacceptable. During car arrival, a member of our staff, Mr. Rodriguez, was struck by a vehicle on school property. The driver refused to follow directions. While I am grateful that he is fine, the fact that this occurred at all is deeply concerning.
This incident serves as a clear and serious reminder: safety on our campus is not optional, and it is not negotiable.
Our arrival and dismissal procedures are designed to keep everyone safe: students, families, and staff. These procedures only work when all drivers follow staff directions immediately and without resistance. Staff members are positioned where they are for a reason, and their directions must be followed at all times while on school property.
Effective immediately, I need to be very clear:
-All people must follow staff directions while on CSPES property.
-Unsafe driving, refusal to comply with directions, or aggressive behavior toward staff will not be tolerated.
-Failure to follow these expectations will result in the loss of the privilege to drive onto school property.
This is not a threat; it is a necessary safety measure.
Our staff members show up every day to serve your children with care, professionalism, and commitment. They deserve to do so without fear for their physical safety. No student arrival or departure is worth risking someone’s life.
I ask for your partnership, your patience, and your cooperation as we work together to ensure that CSPES remains a safe place for all. Safety is a shared responsibility, and it requires collective accountability.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support of our school community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tabatha Camacho
Principal, Chesapeake Science Point Elementary School
