GCPA SCHEDULING: Scheduling for the 2026-27 school year is approaching! As families discuss course selection, please consider the Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA) Signature Program! GCPA is a Program of Choice, connecting students to professional experiences and developing crucial skills with broad applicability. GCPA students grow their communications, presentation, and collaboration skills through project-based instruction. They explore what it means to be an effective communicator, the role ethics plays in communication, and the importance of media literacy. Students also develop an understanding of their community and how they can have an impact at the state and local level.
GCPA I is available to rising 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. Rising seniors can take GCPA I and GCPA II concurrently if their schedule allows. For more information, vist https://www.southriverhigh.org/GCPAsignature or contact Mr. Josh White, GCPA Signature Program Coordinator, at jtwhite@aacps.org. AACC PROGRAM FAIR: Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is coming to South River! Representatives from a variety of departments, including admissions and counseling, will host AACC's Traveling Road Show on Friday, February 13, 2026. Students have the opportunity to check out program opportunities, career paths, and chat with professors and staff. The Traveling Road Show will be open to all students during NEST (with a pass) on 2/13. Departments from past visits include Architecture, Business, Computer Science, Emergency Medical Tech, Homeland Security, and Public Health, among many others! Students should see Mr. Josh White or Mrs. Diane Bennett in the GCPA Office for more information and a pass to the event!
MOCK INTERVIEWS: The Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA) Signature Program is hosting Mock Interviews during the first week of March! We are looking for professionals and community members to join us as interviewers from Tuesday, March 3, through Friday, March 6. No interview experience is required! Volunteers will conduct 15-minute interviews with all 11th grade students and provide verbal and written feedback on interviews and resumes. During the interview, volunteers will examine student resumes, ask questions regarding student interests and experiences, and provide feedback on student performance. This is a great opportunity to provide valuable professional experience to students in a low consequence environment, while helping them prepare for the real world that awaits! Interested guests can take a look at the sign up page and choose a time (or times) that works best: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D49A8A62EA3FD0-61558113-south#/ Please share this opportunity with colleagues and friends!
