Message from PBIS
We are excited to share that this year our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team is introducing several new activities to recognize and celebrate the amazing efforts of our students and staff. One of these new initiatives is our RRE Tickets, which highlight students who demonstrate Respectful, Responsible, and Engaged behaviors across all areas of school life.
Students can earn RRE tickets for showing positive behaviors and then choose how to use them. They may spend their tickets at the Seahawk Store (open once a month) or save them to participate in special quarterly events. This gives students the opportunity to enjoy immediate rewards or practice responsibility by saving for larger celebrations.
To help make this initiative a success, we are reaching out to our community for support. Donations can be made through our Amazon Wishlist, local businesses, or other store locations. Your generosity directly benefits our students and encourages them to continue soaring above expectations.
We are truly grateful for the ongoing support of our families and community partners. Together, we can make this a successful and positive school year for all!

Homecoming - October 4, 2025, 7-10 pm, South River Gymnasium
Ticket Sales: Homecoming tickets will go on sale this Wednesday, September 24, during lunch. Ticket sales will continue through Wednesday, October 1, or until tickets sell out. Tickets are $30, and all students must clear any obligations prior to purchasing. Students should see Ms. McCauley in the main office to confirm they do not have obligations and to receive a dance contract, which must be signed by the student. Parents can review the contract here. Please note, outside guests are not allowed at homecoming.
Homecoming Volunteers: At the beginning of the year, we sent out a survey to collect information from parents who were willing to help with Homecoming. Whether you would like to chaperone or donate food items, no amount of help is too small. We already have food from Adam's Ribs and Glory Days, but we will need to order several pizzas, water bottles, and other small snacks for the dance. Please complete the Homecoming Volunteer Form to indicate if and how you would like to help. We will follow up with those who complete the form to provide specific details.

From the Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA) Signature Program
Call for ICST Members
The GCPA Signature Program is looking to add members to our community stakeholders’ team. The Integrated Community Stakeholders Team, or ICST, meets monthly to coordinate events like mock interviews and guest speakers, provide input and feedback on GCPA curriculum, and offers opportunities for students to develop communications and other professional skills. Meetings are generally virtual, with a few in-person get-togethers planned for this year. Professionals working in communications, public affairs or interests, or any related fields are welcome! Please email Josh White, GCPA Program Coordinator, for more information (jtwhite@aacps.org).
The deadlines for families who receive assistance through the Maryland Department of Human Services’ SUN Bucks program to utilize their balance are approaching. The deadline for utilization is 122 days after the funds were issued. Maryland SUN Bucks helps families with school-aged children who receive free or reduced-price meals buy groceries during the summer break when school meals are unavailable. Many AACPS families are enrolled to receive these benefits but have not yet accessed them, and MD SUN Bucks will begin expiring in October. To help ensure families do not lose access to these benefits, we encourage you to remind your families to use their benefits before they expire. SUN Bucks benefits will expire 122 days after issuance, which means that June benefits will begin expiring in October. If families or staff have specific questions, they should contact Maryland
Department of Human Services (DHS) office at 1-800-332-6347 and select the SUN Bucks option.
The U.S. Department of Education requires all school systems that receive federal funding to survey each student every year. AACPS receives approximately $4,000,000 in unrestricted funding through the Impact Aid Grant annually. Impact Aid is a federal formula grant program designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. Federally connected students are children of active-duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property (ie:
Naval Academy, Fort Meade) or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal properties in Maryland such as Goddard Space Center, Social Security, White Oak, etc. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance in completing this task. If you have any questions, please call Angie Smack in the Finance Office at 410-222-5200.
