Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!

Dear Solley Elementary School Families,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I join the Solley Elementary School family and serve this wonderful community as your principal for the 2026-2027 school year. Together, we will continue building a strong school community where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.

To help kick off the school year, we invite students in Grades 1-5 to attend Sneak A Peek at Your Seat on Thursday, August 20, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Students will have an opportunity to meet their teacher, find their classroom, and locate their seat before the first day of school. Students in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will have the opportunity to visit their classroom and see their seat during their individual conferences on August 24 and 25.

Who Is My Teacher?

Excited to find out who your child's teacher will be? We know the anticipation is building! Teachers will send a welcome email to families by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17. So be sure to check the primary email address we have on file. Our staff is eager to connect with you and begin building strong home-school partnerships.

School Supplies

We are pleased to share that all school supplies needed for the school year will be provided by Solley Elementary School! Families only need to send four items with their child:

  • A backpack (Non-rolling)

  • A water bottle (any kind is fine, but please label it with your child's name)

  • A lunch box, if your child will be bringing lunch from home

  • A set of wired earphones that can plug into a Chromebook (these will remain at school and be used as needed throughout the year)

Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application

At Solley Elementary, we are committed to supporting every child and family in our community. We strongly encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals application, even if you are unsure whether your household qualifies. Many families are surprised to learn they may be eligible for benefits, and the information collected through these applications can also help our school access additional resources and funding that support student programs and services.

The application process is confidential, takes only a few minutes, and may provide valuable assistance for your family. We encourage every family to take a moment to apply:

Every application makes a difference and helps us continue providing the best possible educational experience for all Solley Elementary students.

Arrival and Dismissal

The official school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:25 p.m. Our doors will open at 7:40 a.m., and staff members will be outside ready to greet students and assist with arrival each morning.  It is very important for students to be in their seat, ready for instruction, by 8:00 am.  I understand that mornings can be tough as I am the mother of two AACPS students; however, our amazing teachers begin instruction promptly at 8:00am and every second a student is not in their seat is missed instruction.

Dismissal will begin promptly at 2:25 p.m. If you arrive after 2:40 p.m., you will need to come into the main office and sign your child out. Please be prepared to present a valid form of identification.

We kindly ask families to make every effort to pick up students on time. While our staff truly enjoys spending time with the students, our teachers and staff have important responsibilities to complete at the end of each day. As much as we'd love to offer an after-school "Just Waiting Around Club," our team has afternoon duties that need their attention too! Thank you for helping us ensure a smooth and safe dismissal for everyone.

Save the Date

Please save the date for our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 24, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This special evening will provide an opportunity for families to learn more about grade-level expectations, classroom routines, and ways we can work together to support student success.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. We are looking forward to an amazing year filled with learning, laughter, discovery, and countless opportunities for our Cardinals to shine. I am honored to be part of the Solley Elementary family and look forward to a fantastic year together!

Warmly,

Ms. Kristy Snyder, Principal

Mrs. Laura (Lindsay) Manning, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Ashley Hollandsworth, RISE Assistant Principal
