Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin a new school year full of promise and learning, we wanted to take a moment to

share some important updates about a major shift happening behind the scenes at our

school.

Over the past three weeks, our dedicated teachers have been learning to use Canvas, the

new online platform adopted by our district for lesson planning, assignments, and grade

reporting. This transition is part of a district-wide effort to streamline communication and

enhance your child’s learning experience. There have been a few bumps in the road that we

are working through. One glitch that is currently being addressed at the central office level

is duplicate entries in both Canvas and the PowerSchool Gradebook. Our teachers are

aware of these issues, and the Office of Secondary Reading English Integrated Literature

(SREIL) is currently working on a fix expected to roll out this week.

As our teachers navigate this new system—learning new processes for both planning and

grading—we kindly ask for your patience and grace. You may notice some irregularities in

Canvas, such as:

● Double grades

● Missing grades or assignments

● Blank gradebooks

We understand this may be concerning, but we assure you that this is part of the learning

curve and system adjustment. Teachers are working diligently to clean up their gradebooks

and will ensure everything is accurate by the time interim reports are released.

We truly appreciate your partnership and support as we all adjust to this new platform. With

your patience and understanding, we are confident that Canvas will become a powerful tool

to support student learning throughout the year.

Warmly,

Ms. Meadows
