• AACPS Pre-Retirement Planning

    In the fall and spring of each year, AACPS holds a program for employees who are considering retirement within the next three to five years.

    Spring Program - April 21 2018, 8:30 am - 11:30 am

    Board Room, Carol S. Parhap Building, 2644 Riva Rd. Annapolis MD 21401

    An informative presentation regarding Social Security and Medicare is offered in addition to information about aspects of establishing an income stream after retirement.

    Supplemental Retirement Plan vendors will be available in the lobby.

    Fall Program - October 20, 2018, 8:30 am - 11:30 am /Location TBD

    A representative from the Maryland State Retirement Agency provides an informative presentation about MSRA benefits and the AACPS Office of Retirement provides information about applying for retiree healthcare benefits.

    In addition to the all-day seminars, the Retirement Agency is hosting Pre-Retirement Planning webinars for members who are looking for a brief and convenient presentation of their retirement benefits. 

    Pre Retirement Webinars

    Pre-Retirement Planning webinar provides a general overview of Maryland State Retirement and Pension (MSRPS) Benefits – including a general description of retirement eligibility, information about how to increase your service credit, an explanation of allowance options and how to apply for your benefit.  This webinar is tailored by the MSRPS for members of the Employees, Teachers and Correctional Officers Retirement Systems.

    FAQs regarding participation in the Maryland State Retirement System


  • In the year leading up to retirement, AACPS recommends the following steps:

    1.  Obtain an Estimate

    Complete and submit the State Form 9 Application for an Estimate of Service Retirement Allowance.  It can take six to 12 weeks to receive the results, depending on the time of year submitted. 

    2.  Attend a AACPS Retirement Information Program

    Topics include timeline for retirement, eligibility, benefit formulas, pension payment options, leave payout, post-retirement health coverage, continuation of life and Long Term Care insurance, and required forms. Spouses are welcome.

    3.  Attend a AACPS Retirement Forms Workshop

    All required MSRPS forms are reviewed and explained, as well as required AACPS forms. Spouses are welcome.

    4.  Complete all necessary MSRPS and AACPS forms and submit them at a Forms Open House event.

    Completed forms are reviewed during an individual meeting with the employee, and collected for submission to the Retirement Agency.  Questions are answered.  Notary is available as needed. Spouses are welcome.

    5. Retirement Forms Open House

    Open House events are held 3:00-5:00 pm at the Carol S. Parham Building at 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401. Registration is not necessary. Employees are called to sit individually with a staff member to review all forms, answer any questions, and submit first retiree healthcare payment by check. A Notary will be available.  Complete packets will be collected for AACPS to finalize and submit to the Agency.
