AACPS has planned a wide range of summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students. Programs will be focused on helping students engage in enrichment or unfinished learning, with a focus on mathematics, literacy, and preparing for the next grade level. All programs will support students to have fun while building healthy relationships with peers, practicing skills, and learning new concepts.
Elementary and middle school programs will offer mathematics, literacy, cultural arts, movement, mindfulness, and co-curricular experiences. At the high school level, there will be a wide range of opportunities to earn high school credits in all subject areas required for graduation – credit recovery and original credit opportunities. Traditional summer offerings, including Extended School Year (ESY), Summer Camp Engage, SOAR, Summer Bridges, Arlington Echo experiences, and other academic and co-curricular enrichment opportunities and camps will also be offered. Importantly, our community-based partners have joined us to design and offer this robust summer suite of programs for our students across the county.
- be offered only to students who are currently enrolled in AACPS schools.*
- be offered at no cost to all AACPS enrolled students.
- be either virtual or in-person (no hybrid).
- provide limited transportation from hub stops throughout communities.
- provide breakfast and lunch for all-day programs in Title 1 schools. We hope to add additional sites as we get more information closer to summer.
- run 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday).
Registration will open on March 1, 2022 and close on April 8, 2022. (Please note, Summer School will have a later registration date.) Rosters will be finalized on April 22, 2022. Notices will be sent to families on April 23, 2022 to let them know if their child has been placed into the camp, waitlisted, or not accepted. Once notices are sent, parents will have five days to respond to confirm their child's seat in the camp. If the seat is not confirmed, then the child will be moved to the waitlist and the seat will be offered to another waitlisted child.
Summer seats are not guaranteed for all students. The federal funds used to support summer offerings require us to consider students' unfinished learning and student needs as student selections are made. If the student demand exceeds the number of seats available, we will need to make final student selections. Once your student is selected to attend, you will be notified by the program facilitator with additional information.

The secondary summer school program offers students a limited number of secondary school courses and provides students the opportunity to:
