Zachary McGrath

Zachary McGrath was elected to represent the students of AACPS in April 2022. He began a one-year term as the 49th Student Member of the Board of Education on July 1, 2022.

Zach is currently a senior at Severna Park High School. He has lived in Anne Arundel County since 2014, when his father was stationed at the Naval Academy under the Permanent Military Professor program. He attended Folger McKinsey Elementary School and Old Mill Middle School South as a STEM magnet student.

Zach has worked in county and state government. He was a youth representative for the Anne Arundel County Office of Health Equity and Racial Justice and interned for Delegates Henson and Bartlett in the State House. He currently interns for Senator Elfreth.

Prior to his election to the Board of Education, Zach was active in student government. He served on the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils executive board, the Maryland Association of Student Councils executive board, and as an officer for his high school’s student government.

Zach is passionate about civic education and conservation. As a boy scout, he worked on numerous conservation projects, including working with Kinder Farm Park to support the local Bluebird population for his Eagle Scout project. Zach also serves on the youth advisory council of the Maryland Civic Education Coalition and works with the organization to promote civic education.

Zach lives with his mother and father in Severna Park.
