Melissa Ellis was elected to represent Councilmanic District 4 on the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County in November 2018 and began a six-year term on December 3, 2018.
Mrs. Ellis holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a focus on child development and education. She is a home educator who taught three of her four children through eighth grade before they entered the Anne Arundel County Public Schools system. She continues to educate her fourth child at home.
Mrs. Ellis has taught classes with various homeschool organizations as well as coaching a team of 7- and 8-year-old students in Destination Imagination. She served as room parent for her two oldest children’s classrooms prior to beginning their homeschool journey, and has also volunteered with the PTA.
Prior to becoming a home educator, Mrs. Ellis was a human resources manager for a healthcare company and a logistician for a contractor for the U.S. Navy.
Mrs. Ellis has volunteered at various community theaters including Colonial Players, Prince George’s Little Theatre, and the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis. She has been a volunteer for The Talent Machine Company since 2011 and has chaired various departments in the company.
In 2017-2018, she served as president of the Drama Company Boosters for Annapolis High School. She currently serves as the organization’s vice president.
Mrs. Ellis resides in Millersville with her husband, their three youngest children, two dachshunds, and two rescue cats. The Ellis’ oldest daughter is currently a freshman in the Honors College at Salisbury University.
