AACPS Conditional Teachers: Have You Determined Your Pathway to Certification?

The AACC/AACPS Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program – Resident Teacher Certification program for Secondary (Middle & High School) Critical Shortage Content Areas is accepting applications from our current Provisional/Conditional teachers. These content areas include English, MS Language Arts, MS & HS Math, MS Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, French, Tech Ed., FACS and Social Studies 7-12. Multiple deadlines have been established to provide opportunities to complete the internship activity during the 2019-20 school year. 

The final deadline for conditional teacher applications and supporting documents will be March 2, 2020. If the application is approved, the internship will run from March 30 to May 22, 2020 and will lead to eligibility for the Resident Teacher Certificate and a salary increase on July 1, 2020.

For conditional teachers unable to complete the application requirements by March, additional internships will be scheduled for the 2020-2021 school year and will lead to eligibility for the RTC and a salary increase on January 1, 2021.

Please review the application requirements and make plans to register and take both the Praxis Core (or providing SAT, GRE, ADT scores) and the Praxis 2 Content assessments. Since two courses, AACC EDU 261 & EDU 262, must be completed before or during/concurrent with the RTC internship, contact Sandy Koskovich at AACC Teach Institute to explore enrollment.  Both courses are listed on the AACC Spring Course 2020 offerings.  They are also offered during the summer.   Conditional teachers also may use the direct billing process to pay for six credits within your annual tuition reimbursement benefit. Conditional teachers may also apply for reimbursement of the cost of Praxis assessments leading to initial certification while grant funds remain.

Note: The SAT, GRE or ACT score can be used in place of the Praxis Crore if it meets the MSDE required score demonstrating proficiency in basic skills (reading, writing and math.)
