North County HS Teacher Wins Voya Unsung Heroes Award
North County High School Spanish teacher Mallory Newcomer recently won a Voya Unsung Heroes award, which is a national grant to which over 1,000 teachers apply. After applying, she became a semi-finalist and won $2,000 to use technology in the classroom. The project that will be implemented with this money will be to a "virtual tour" of ESOL students' home countries. In this, ESOL students will work with World Language students to create a tour of their home towns. This will be a way for our ESOL students to practice their English, and for our language students to practice foreign language in an authentic way. It will build and improve the school community by allowing for students to get to know their peers.
