Intern Tell me about yourself: Recently received the rank of Eagle Scout with 3 Palms after completing a rest area outside of Old Mill High School. Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 447 in Linthicum, MD. I enjoy biking, playing video games, hiking and hanging out with friends. I love boxers and even my dog is named Scout. 

 

Why did you choose to pursue an internship?  To grow my experience from my two years in Culinary Arts. Chef Bruce Davis taught me a lot about hard work and dedication, so I knew I needed to get out and try my hand in a restaurant.  

 

My Mom took me to lunch to celebrate my 18th birthday. Luckily for me the one manager noticed my interest in the restaurant and struck up a conversation. I ended up filling out an application, interviewed with the chef and was hired on the spot. 

 

What are your plans after graduation? Continuing at Ruth Chris and attend AACC Hospitality Culinary Arts Traveling (HCAT) program.

Coolest project you worked on: I love learning about prep of the food knowing that I am preparing food to celebrate special moments for someone or to help make someone feel better after a hard day. 

 

One thing you have learned that you will take with you:  Every night is a new challenge... The restaurant business is a fast-paced job and there is lots to learn. People in the restaurant business are friendly and treat you like family. Hard work pays off. 

 

Best piece of advice you would give to a junior who is looking to pursue an internship: Be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. Be receptive to helping out wherever needed and take advantage of every opportunity to learn.  

 

Describe one experience at your internship that you will never forget:  After I earned Eagle rank, my manager contacted my Mom and planned a celebration for me. I went into work that night to find Chef Davis, family and friends waiting to surprise me. The owner of Ruth's Chris even congratulated me on earning Eagle. I was given lots of cool gifts from the company and will be featured in the corporation's newsletter.
