Local Parent Wins 2018 John Nelson Parent Engagement Award

A parent at Rippling Woods Elementary School, Gulnara Gelashvili, won the 2018 John Nelson Parent Engagement Award this year, and was presented at the M.E.L.L.F.I.N conference on May 24, 2018, at the University of Maryland Conference Center. She was nominated and works closely with Alba Morales, the bilingual facilitator who works with Rippling. 

The Award:

The MELLFIN John Nelson Parent Engagement Award is an annual recognition of an immigrant parent whose exemplary contributions to Maryland public schools have led to improvements for Maryland public school children, schools, and districts. Nominees must demonstrate engagement in one or more of the five core areas from Maryland’s PreK-12 Parent Engagement Framework:

-Welcoming all families

-Encouraging partnerships among schools, families, and communities

-Supporting student learning and success

-Building capacity among school stakeholders

-Promoting effective school-family communication
