Classroom Library Makeover Contest

The Office of Middle School Language Arts and Reading held a writing contest for middle school students.

Participants had to write a poem or story to answer one of the following questions:

What if we never had choices in what we read?

What if you could change your classroom library area?

Each school sent their best submissions to be considered for the classroom library makeover contest.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the classroom library makeover writing contest.

1st place story – Amelia Farrar, Bates Middle School, Mrs. Pieper’s language arts class

1st place poem – Nicholas Javid, Magothy River Middle School, Ms. Parson’s language arts class

Runner up story – Riley Greensberg, Severna Park Middle School, Ms. Haven’s language arts class

Runner up poem – Andy Greene, Brooklyn Park Middle School, Ms. Watkins’ language arts class

Through a generous grant from the 21st Century Education Foundation all four students will receive a prize pack including books and a gift card. The two 1st place classrooms will receive a makeover of their classroom library area later this month.
