UMBC Online ESOL Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program for Maryland Educators

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) offers a twelve-credit post baccalaureate certificate (PBC) in ESOL designed to provide experienced teachers with knowledge and skills to work with students whose first language is not English. Maryland public school teachers and para-educators are eligible to apply for our Online ESOL PBC Program for Maryland Educators. Participants receive reduced tuition and fees for the program. All four courses are offered completely online.

Certification and Endorsements

Certified teachers may add an ESOL endorsement by either passing the ESOL Praxis or completing 30 credits of TESOL coursework.  Our certificate courses are excellent preparation for the ESOL Praxis.  Alternatively, the courses can be counted toward the 30 credits.

Those interested in initial P-12 certification are encouraged to consider our MA TESOL w/certification. The 4 PBC courses can be transferred into the MA program.
