THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Nantucket Elementary School

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Nantucket Elementary's School Story

  • Nantucket Elementary first opened the doors for our learners in August of 2008, in Crofton, Maryland. This neighborhood school is home to 800 Starfish (students) coming from over 20 different countries. While Nantucket Elementary is one of the largest elementary schools in Anne Arundel County, we have a small school feel. Parents and students are greeted each day with a warm and friendly smile. The dedicated and energetic staff truly love being a part of this diverse community. We celebrate our diversity so that ALL feel welcome and respect each others’ differences. Families are invited each year to our “Giving of Thanks” where we share the cultures and traditions of our families. Students learn facts, games, dances, art, and music through our Multicultural Showcase.

In 2018, we underwent the process of revising the Vision and Core Values of Nantucket Elementary. Our Vision, To empower every Starfish as a life-long learner, speaks to our goal of academic achievement. We believe in providing a challenging, rigorous, and engaging environment where our students learn to persevere in all that they do. Classrooms reflect the learning that takes place on a daily basis. Walking down the halls, one will observe students conferring with each other, working in collaborative groups, and utilizing hands-on tools. Nantucket Elementary is truly an amazing place to learn and grow!

Our Starfish are taught to be kind to one another, as modeled by the adults in our building. Through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the Nantucket students are rewarded for displaying kindness and respect to themselves and others in our school community. Our goal is to have our students want to come to school each and every day. We believe in the values of All Means All and Ready, Set, Launch!
