Monarch Global Academy - Laurel

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Monarch Global Academy - Laurel School's Story

  • Monarch Global Academy (MGA) is a K-8 Public Contract School located in Laurel, Maryland. MGA was built in 2014 to alleviate the overcrowding at Brock Bridge, Maryland City, and Jessup Elementary Schools, and only those students living in their attendance areas are eligible to apply for admittance. 

    The Children’s Guild is our school operator, and we utilize the Transformation Education (TranZed) approach to learning. TransZed is a school model rooted in the belief that culture is the best and most effective vehicle for educating and socializing children.  The values of caring contribution and commitment are integrated into the design of Monarch Global’s physical environment, its operating systems, its instructional approach, and its employees’ mindsets and behaviors.

    MGA is an International Baccalaureate World School, and grades K-6 follow the IB Primary Years Programme. In grades 7 and 8, we use a more Project Based Learning approach with our students. Our 825 students are eager to come to school each day as we prepare them to be self-motivated, creative, critical thinkers and life-long learners, who are productive contributors to the global community in the 21st century. MGA provides students with a rigorous, highly interactive instructional program that integrates arts and technology across the curriculum.  All students are encouraged to think critically, question, reflect, and participate in every facet of their educational experience.   AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Elementary strategies are used throughout our classrooms in grades K-6. Students may enroll in an AVID elective class beginning in 7th grade.
