Fall 2020 Planning
Anne Arundel County Public Schools has formed Fall 2020 Future Planning Committees (FPCs) composed of school district personnel, community leaders, students, teachers, families, employee bargaining unit members, and stakeholders from across the county to come together to plan for Fall 2020 schooling options. Our FPCs are focusing on the needs of Anne Arundel County students and families as they review information from national and international schools and organizations and guidance from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, our County Executive, Maryland’s State School Superintendent, and Governor Larry Hogan. Maryland Together - Maryland’s Recovery Plan for Education is also being used to guide FPCs’ efforts. Committees have worked to produce viable options for reopening school for the Fall 2020 semester. Initial committee recommendations were presented to the Superintendent and Board of Education for their consideration and in consultation with the Health Officer of Anne Arundel County, the decision was made to begin the 2020-21 school year fully virtual. The FPCs continue to work on models to be used to bring back students to hybrid (in-person & virtual) learning when it is deemed safe to do so.
Through the collective endeavors of educational leaders and stakeholders throughout the state, the future educational needs of students will be fully addressed. The most important step will be for leadership to base important decisions on data, the uniqueness of individual school systems, financial capabilities, technological capabilities, and student needs. Prior planning will set the stage for accomplishments that will be achieved throughout the school year.”
