Advanced Learning Continuum

  • The Division of Advanced Studies and Programs offers rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) courses which give students access to challenging college-level coursework. To be prepared for greatness in high school and beyond, students must first develop the skills and learning strategies necessary to meet the demands of these rigorous courses. This process begins in elementary school through Primary Talent Development (PTD) and Advanced Learner Programs (ALPs) and continues in middle school with Differentiated Advanced Learning Initiatives (DALI).

PTD's focus is to address and support teachers in talent development and meeting the advanced learning needs of primary students PreK-2.

ALPs is designed to provide students with daily opportunities for advanced mathematics and language arts instruction for students in grades 3-5.

DALI provides advanced mathematics and language arts instruction for identified gifted and talented students in grades 6-8.

Throughout this journey, students take an active role in their own learning and develop a strong foundation on which they can build a successful--and rigorous--education. Some of the strategies students will practice (among others):

    • Higher Order Questioning
    • Socratic Seminar Discussions
    • Collaborative Reasoning
    • Using multiple strategies to solve a problem
    • Integrating classroom strategies into Co-Curricular opportunities
