THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023
Crofton Meadows Elementary School
-
When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement. Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts. Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.
Crofton Meadows Elementary's School Story
-
Crofton Meadows Elementary is one of four elementary schools that serve the greater Crofton area and the only school in Crofton to receive National Blue Ribbon School status for our efforts in closing the achievement gap. Crofton Meadows Elementary, home of the Mustangs, has been an integral part of the Crofton community for the past 30 years. We welcome more than 540 students through our doors, where they are embraced for who they are and challenged for who they will become. Our school’s enrollment has grown significantly over the last five years and is expected to continue growing in the near future due to the construction of a new, state-of-the-art high school within our school boundaries. We are a community school that reflects an increasingly diverse population.
The students, families, and staff not only reflect the diversity of the surrounding community, but the character of the community itself. The Crofton Meadows family is a caring and compassionate group dedicated to educating the whole child by focusing on social and emotional needs, as well as academic needs of every student. We strive to create an environment that instills a love of learning in all our students.

A typical day at Crofton Meadows starts with excited students gathering in front of the school building. Inside, the staff puts the finishing touches on what will turn out to be an awesome day of rigorous and engaging instruction and activities. Each day, the teachers meet with their students in a “morning meeting.” This time allows for the teachers to check-in with their students, build relationships, set goals and provide an overview of the day. Throughout the day, students are engaged in academic activities to gain knowledge and skills and then work independently or in small groups to apply their new knowledge to real world situations. The students love to work with each other and frequently encourage their classmates. The teachers are passionate about creating interdisciplinary lessons and including movement, song, and art in their teaching techniques. Our students and staff are proud of all our efforts to show how awesome we are.
