THE WORK OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN 2018-2023

Ferndale Early Education Center

  • When each school began to plan their important work based on AACPS’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan during the spring of 2018, school teams reflected on their school culture, their community, and the key factors contributing to student achievement.  Each school was then asked to consider which Strategic Plan Indicators would have the greatest positive impact for their students. School leadership teams selected indicators and developed plans to focus and guide their efforts.  Please come with us on our journey as we describe why, what, and how we do our work to serve our students and families of our school.

Ferndale Early Education Center's School Story

  • Ferndale Early Education Center is an AACPS school servicing half-day programs in Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), Full Day Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten students.  We are located in the Ferndale community of Glen Burnie, Maryland and are home to some of the county’s youngest students. The staff at Ferndale creates a caring and welcoming environment. The students look forward to coming to school every day to an exciting, joyful, and safe environment where the school’s teachers and staff create engaging learning opportunities with an emphasis on hands-on and STEM lessons. Ferndale Early Education Center has impacted generations of families, and plays an important role in the Ferndale community.

Ferndale is an Academic Achievement for All (Triple-A) school based on our percentage of students qualifying for free and reduced meals (FARMS). The Triple-A Program gives our school funding to provide additional staff members, support professional development, purchase materials of instruction, and provide Parent Family Engagement events throughout the school year.

Ferndale Early Education Center participates in the Arts Empowered Minds Initiative (AEMI) program that is utilized to increase access to high-quality arts-integrated learning opportunities for students and teachers.  Ferndale participates in smART residencies through Young Audiences that invites artists to create hands on experiences for students.  Through AEMI, teachers increase their capacity to use arts integration in the classroom. We know that learning through the arts engages students at high levels which correlates greatly with increases in achievement across the disciplines.

As a Wellness School of Distinction, we are recognized for our high priority for the health and well-being of students, staff, and school supporters. By going beyond the curriculum, we have produced positive wellness outcomes for the entire school community. In addition, our partnership with the University of Maryland Extension has provided multiple opportunities for students to learn about the Farm to Table process. Our Enhancing Elementary Excellence (Triple- E) Program, STEM in Society, encourages students to be inventors and innovators through interactive lessons that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We have a nature play and learning space where students can explore a nature garden, green space, and participate in outdoor classroom activities.  Students meet with our STEM teacher once a week during Cultural Arts to study challenging and meaningful questions related to our world in the 21st Century. Lastly, our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program implements a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional and behavior support.
