  • AACPS has planned a wide range of summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students. Programs will be focused on helping students engage in unfinished learning following this unprecedented school year, with a focus on mathematics, literacy, and preparing for the next grade level. All programs will support students to have fun while building healthy relationships with peers, practicing skills, and learning new concepts.

Elementary and middle school programs will offer mathematics, literacy, cultural arts, movement, mindfulness, and co-curricular experiences. At the high school level, there will be a wide range of opportunities to earn high school credits in all subject areas required for graduation – credit recovery and original credit opportunities. Traditional summer offerings, including Extended School Year (ESY), Summer Engage Academy, SOAR, Soaring to Success, Summer Bridges, Arlington Echo experiences, and other academic and co-curricular enrichment opportunities and camps will also be offered.  Importantly, our community-based partners have joined us to design and offer this robust summer suite of programs for our students across the county.

    Programs will:

    • be offered only to students who are currently enrolled in AACPS schools.*
    • be offered at no cost to all AACPS enrolled students.
    • be either virtual or in-person (no hybrid).
    • provide limited transportation from hub stops throughout communities.
    • provide breakfast and lunch for all-day programs.
    • run 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday).

Phase One registration will open on April 22, 2021 and close on April 30, 2021. (If seats are not filled during this time, registration will reopen to fill seats.)

Summer seats are not guaranteed for all students.  The federal funds used to support summer offerings require us to consider student's unfinished learning and student need as student selections are made.  If the student demand exceeds the number of seats available, we will use need to make final student selections.  Once your student is selected to attend, you will be notified by the program director with additional information. NOTE: Initial notifications will be made in early May.

Important Announcements

  • 6/28/21 - Summer Safety  We will be following these safety rules for all summer camps:

    1. Elementary and middle school students will need to be masked during camps while learning and playing inside.  They may take off their masks while outside as long as they are socially distanced.  They may also remove their masks while eating and drinking.
    2. High school students may be unmasked inside classrooms and outside school buildings unless they are in activities or camps with elementary or middle school students.  If in mixed-age groups, high school students will need to be masked while inside classrooms.  In all cases, they need to remain as socially distanced as possible.
    3. Adults must be masked when in any area of our school buildings where elementary or middle school students are present.
    4. Bus Transportation
      1. Students may travel two per seat on school buses.
      2. NEW (7/1/21): ALL students, bus drivers, and aides must be masked at all times while riding the school bus.

6/21/21 – Pre and Post Information Survey Required: Due to our use of federal funds to support AACPS summer camps and programming, we are required to administer pre and post-surveys to ascertain student learning and satisfaction.  In addition, we are seeking teacher and guardian feedback on their perception of the camp as an academic or enrichment experience for their student(s).

4/22/21 - Secondary Summer School Costs: Summer School is free for AACPS students. Students outside of AACPS may register; however, there will be a fee associated per course.

4/22/21 - Summer Camp Costs: AACPS Summer 2021 Camps are free for AACPS students. Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief [ESSER] funds are being used to support summer camps and programming. These funds cannot be used to support non-AACPS students.
