Spring 2021 AACPS Roadmap to Reopening

  • Cohort

A Cohort is a group of students who are educated in the same location at the same time.  The cohort also contains any adults who are regularly with any one group of students.

Examples of a Cohort as we will use it for considering the elementary learning models:

      • All students, teachers, and teaching assistant who are assigned to the in-person classroom for hybrid learning
      • All students, teachers, and teaching assistant who are assigned to a virtual learning group

  • Virtual-Only Learning Model

    The Virtual-Only learning model includes:

      • A cohort of students learning 5 consecutive days per week virtually from home, childcare facility, or other non-school location for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year ending in June 2021.
      • A possibility of students being assigned a new teacher for the remainder of the year.
      • A learning schedule with times that remain as they currently are in place until Hybrid instruction begins. At that time, both Hybrid and Virtual-Only students' learning schedules will adjust to school start and dismissal times.
      • A consistent virtual learning model in place from February 2021 through June 2021.

  • VIRTUAL-PLUS: HYBRID LEARNING MODEL

The Virtual-Plus (Hybrid) learning model includes:

      • A cohort of students learning 2 consecutive days per week in school via in-person instruction and 3 days per week learning  virtually from home, childcare facility, or other non-school location
      • A probability of students and teachers remaining together, but that will depend on family choice of learning model and teacher availability.  It is possible that students may be assigned a new teacher.  These students may have the same teacher for in-person and virtual learning or they may have one in-person teacher and a second virtual teacher.
      • A learning schedule with times that remain as they currently are in place until Hybrid instruction begins. At that time, both Hybrid and Virtual-Only students' learning schedules will adjust to school start and dismissal times.
