  • OPENING OF SCHOOL: PD DAYS, RELATIONSHIPS, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL CLIMATE

    Please take a look at the resources for School Opening for background reading on this topic.  Feel free to discuss the following questions with teachers in your schools and bring back their thoughts and ideas for discussion at our October 7, 2019 Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory meeting.

    Questions to be considered:

    • What do you think of the mix of professional development workshops and time to work in your classroom during Teacher Back-to-School days?
    • How did this year’s opening of school compare to prior years?
    • What are you seeing happening within your school with staff and students based on our focus on our people and building healthy relationships?
    • How is our first Strategic Plan Value – All means ALL - coming alive in your schools?
    • Are there any #AACPSBackToAwesome “best practices” from teachers in your schools that you feel should be shared with other teachers around the county?

    • How are teachers feeling about this FY2021 recommended budget?

  • Mental Health Issues and Challenges

    Please take a look at the resources for Mental Health Issues & Challenges for background reading on this topic.  Feel free to discuss the following questions with teachers in your schools and bring back their thoughts and ideas for discussion at our February 10, 2020 Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory meeting.  Feel free to peruse the additional resources prior to the meeting.

    Questions to be considered:

    • How are teachers feeling about and addressing the mental health issues and challenges they are seeing in their students?
    • How are teachers readying themselves for mental health issues, challenges, and crises experienced by students, colleagues, or their families?
    • How are Community Circles or Restorative Practices in general being used in schools to support students struggling with potential mental health challenges?
    • Are teachers aware of the structures we have in place to support staff members/families who may be struggling with a mental health challenge?
    • Are teachers aware of how to seek mental health support for themselves, their families, students, or colleagues?
