We are pleased to welcome and congratulate Mark Hoffmann on becoming the new Board President for the 21st Century Education Foundation. Mr. Hoffmann is a Business Banker in the Treasury Management Division of First Citizens Bank, and has been a 21st CEF Board Member since 2017. Mr. Hoffmann succeeds Ray Streib, who served as the 21st CEF Board President from 2016 to 2020.
Below are questions and responses from a brief interview with Mr. Hoffmann:
Do you have a memorable school experience that has had a lasting impact?
"Several teachers stand out in my memory and made a lasting impact, more than any one experience. Specifically, the ones who really seemed to take a genuine interest in me... I unequivocally believe their passion for teaching and dedicated interest in my success steered me in a more math and science-oriented direction."
How did you become involved with the 21st CEF and AACPS?
"I wanted to be a part of something that really made a difference in giving back to the community. I wanted to set an example for my young daughter to see there was reward in helping others."
Why do you, personally, enjoy working with the school system?
"It is rewarding to see and feel the impact on the community where I spend 95% of my existence. The outcome and impact of the efforts of the 21st CEF are visible and tangible... I genuinely believe that being an educator is one of the most, if not the most, important roles in America. Family, home and school set the foundation for the future of our nation and bear the responsibility of ensuring our legacy. It is an honor to play even a small role in helping to make that happen."
What message would you share with other members of the business community about becoming involved with Anne Arundel County Public Schools?
"Get involved and don't just stand on the sidelines! Any individual or business contribution to the school system, whether through donation of time or money, absolutely makes a difference."Our 2020 Excellence in Education Awards celebration is going virtual!
