Fall 2020

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • 10/15/20 ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS FOR MASK WEARING FOR ANY STUDENT OR TEACHER. IF A CHILD CANNOT WEAR A MASK FOR MEDICAL REASONS, SHOULD THEY CONSIDER THE VIRTUAL-PLUS HYBRID MODEL?

There are no exemptions for mask wearing for any student or teacher.  It is important that each student and their teacher wear masks for their own health and the health of all others in the classroom.  If a student cannot wear a mask for any reason, they should consider the Virtual-Half Year and Virtual-Full Year models.

  • 10/15/20 THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS IS BEING RE WRITTEN TO REFLECT MASK WEARING. IF A CHILD IS NON COMPLIANT, THEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE SCHOOL FOR A CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATION.

For health reasons, mask-wearing is important for all.  It is important that each student and their teacher wear masks for their own health and the health of all others in the classroom.  We will be student-centered in our approach to remind students to pull up their mask, but students who cannot wear their mask for the duration of the day (with mask breaks built in) will be moved to a Virtual-Half Year cohort.

  • 10/12/20 Will there be hand sanitizer in my student’s classroom?

Yes, there will be hand sanitizer in your student’s classroom and also at stations located throughout the school.

  • 10/12/20 Will you be upgrading your ventilation systems in schools prior to students and staff returning?

No. Our ventilation systems and the routine maintenance procedures, including the changing of filters, have all been approved by the state.  We are in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) standards.

  • 10/10/10 Will schools have extra masks should something happen to a student’s mask during the day?

Each school will have a limited supply of extra child-size masks.  We suggest that families pack one extra labeled mask in a plastic bag in the student’s backpack for emergency use.

  • 10/9/20 Who will be cleaning the classrooms and restrooms?

Our AACPS custodial staff have been trained and will be cleaning the classrooms at the end of every school day and on Wednesdays.  They will be regularly walking the school throughout the day to make sure restrooms are clean and that classrooms and hallways have hand sanitizer available for students’ and staff use.

  • 10/8/20 Will my child have to wear a mask?

All mask requirements will be in accordance with the CDC and Anne Arundel County Health Department guidelines. At this time, students will be required to wear masks at the bus stop, on our buses, in classrooms and hallways, and at recess.  Students will have times during the day when they will be given a mask break.  Students above the age of 2 must wear masks in our schools.

  • 10/6/20 If my family has difficulty securing a child’s face mask for our child or my child’s mask becomes unusable will one be provided by the county for in-person learning?

AACPS will be purchasing PPE equipment for each school. Parents/guardians are required to send their student to school with a cloth face covering.  AACPS will have extra masks available, if one is required following mask loss or damage during the in-person school day.
